Pranayama – the extension of our life force

In the Vedic tradition the human body is not just seen as a physical body but as well understood as an energetic body and being. And this is why we find something like an „energy science“ in the yogic tradition. Even if the modern science as well proved that we can measure energy flowing in our bodies, it didn’t become to popular to consider this in our every days life. But ignoring that there is an energetic life force, in everything is not just ignoring science, but as well taking away a field of health, vitality and understanding.

In the yogic tradition the life energy is called prana. And in the practice of yoga there is a whole branch that is taking care of cultivating our prana – the so called pranayama.

Pranayama is the conscious awareness of breath: the life force that both energizes and relaxes the body. The term is derived from the Sanskrit, prana, meaning „life force,“ and ayama, meaning „extension.““

Practicing Pranayama is a wellness tool that will support us as well to navigate with more ease through or every day challenges.
